In 2006 Jim Dalrymple was invited to check out his friends new bay boat and the 2 decided to put the boat to the test, brave the 4 foot seas and go sailfishing. After catching a few sailfish Jim and his friend began tossing around the idea of starting a sailfish tournament locally in Islamorada, Florida for bay boats. The decision was made to hold a tournament and after many phone calls they had eight boats signed up. The participants had a great time and sailfish were caught too. After the tournament the guys discussed how cool it was to catch sailfish out of their bay boats and said if there were more tournaments the following year they would be interested participating. So in 2007 The BayBoat Billfish Tournament Series, LLC was born. Jim began to gather sponsors and had some shirts made.
Again, the guys caught sailfish in their Bay Boats and had a great time. The year after that, more guys became interested, more sponsors joined and Jim had even more shirts made. At this time Jim began to model his tournament series after some of the larger sailfish tournaments here in Florida. For 2 more years the men fished The BayBoat Billfish Tournament Series, LLC out of Islamorada, Florida sharing stories, winning bragging rights and some money too. The word spread outside of the Keys and others wanted to be involved. Our hope at BayBoat Billfish Tournament Series, LLC is to show the versatility and capability of these boats to go out on the blue water and catch sailfish. We want to show the sailfishing community that you don’t need to fish in a “Sporty” or a larger center console to enjoy the excitement of sailfishing. Jim has been a Captain and fishing guide since 1990 in the Florida Keys and also comes from a Bass and Redfish fishing tournament background. He has also been a member of a very successful and winning sailfish team for 7 years and was bitten by the sailfish bug. Jim wanted to bring the offshore fishing excitement to the Bay Boat community so that they could experience the same excitement he did.
